El-Rufai Detained in ₦432 Billion Corruption Probe

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, is currently in custody with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as part of an investigation into allegations of ₦432 billion in corrupt practices during his tenure. He arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Monday, October 10, 2023, in response to an invitation related to the probe.

His lawyer, U. Mustapha, confirmed that El-Rufai is cooperating with the investigation and hopes for bail, emphasizing his client's integrity.

The EFCC is considering seeking a remand order to extend El-Rufai's detention beyond the statutory period. Additionally, the Department of State Services (DSS) has filed fresh charges against him in a Federal High Court in Abuja, alleging unlawful interception of communications involving national security adviser Nuhu Ribadu.

The charges include three counts related to cybercrime and compromising public safety, with the alleged incidents occurring in February 2026.
