DSS Arrests Nasir El-Rufai After EFCC Release

On Wednesday night, the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai shortly after his release from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). El-Rufai was detained following allegations of corruption and was granted bail at 8 PM.

The DSS reportedly laid an ambush at the EFCC headquarters, linking El-Rufai to unlawful phone communication interception. This action follows El-Rufai's remarks during a live interview on Arise TV, where he claimed that the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, had his phone tapped.

The DSS has filed cybercrime charges against El-Rufai in the Federal High Court in Abuja, alleging violations of the Cybercrime Prohibition and Prevention Act 2015. El-Rufai's lawyer, Ubong Akpan, condemned the arrest as arbitrary and a violation of constitutional rights.

The situation escalated after an incident at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, where security personnel confronted El-Rufai's entourage, leading to the confiscation of his international passport.
