El-Rufai Back in ICPC Custody After Court Proceedings

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, has returned to the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) after recent court proceedings. He had briefly left custody on March 27, 2026, due to the death of his mother, Hajiya Umar El-Rufai.

El-Rufai was re-arraigned on Tuesday, with the court adjourning the hearing of his bail application to March 31, 2026. During his first appearance at the Kaduna State High Court, separate charges brought against him by the ICPC were discussed, but the proceedings were stalled due to the absence of co-defendants, leading to an adjournment until April 10, 2026.

El-Rufai is currently facing 10 counts of charges at the Federal High Court in Kaduna, which include allegations of money laundering and unlawful receipt of public property, totaling N289.8 million and various dollar deposits from different individuals. His legal counsel expressed optimism about the bail hearing.
