Ogun Residents Sentenced to Community Service for Waste Disposal

On Thursday, no fewer than 45 residents of Ogun State were sentenced to community service for indiscriminate waste disposal. The Ogun State Waste Management Authority apprehended these individuals in the Kolobo area for allegedly dumping refuse on roadsides and public places, violating state environmental laws.

Governor Ogwama Farook Akintund emphasized that improper waste disposal poses serious environmental and public health risks, contributing to the spread of diseases and pollution of underground water sources. Despite repeated public enlightenment campaigns, residents continue to engage in unlawful waste disposal practices.

The offenders were allowed to undertake community service and signed a written undertaking not to violate the law again. They were also advised to enroll licensed waste collectors in their areas.

Governor Akintund warned that any further offenses would lead to prosecution under the state's environmental laws, urging residents to avoid indiscriminate refuse dumping to prevent legal consequences.
