Ogun Court Sentences 14 for Illegal Waste Disposal

On Monday, the Ogun State Magistrate Court in Abeokuta sentenced fourteen individuals to two weeks in prison or a fine of N10,000 for engaging in illegal waste disposal, which endangers public health. The convicts, identified as Kareem Sherifat, Isiwat Ololad, Ojanuga Esther, Usman Babatund, Bless John Falodun, Bukola Agunbiad, Titilayo Oritogun, Samson Obasa, Idowu Solomon, Adelani Lateef, Saidat Taiwo Abimbola, Adeniyi Olayinka, and Preciou Adeyeri, were arraigned on two counts under the Ogun State Waste Management Authority Law of 2020.

The prosecution, led by Sanitarian Abolaji Dasaolu, presented evidence that the offenders dumped refuse on public roads, creating foul odors and attracting flies, which could lead to the spread of cholera. Justice O.
