NDLEA Arrests 48 Suspected Drug Traffickers in Edo

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested 48 suspected drug traffickers in Edo State, comprising 25 males and 23 females, during intelligence-led operations across various drug hotspots. The agency seized a total of 541.47 kilograms of illicit drugs, primarily cannabis sativa, which accounted for 540.6253 kilograms of the haul.

Other substances recovered included 0.2701 kilograms of psychotropic substances such as tramadol, swinol, diazepam, and rohypnol, along with 0.1415 kilograms of methamphetamine and 1.4 liters of codeine syrup. Mitchel Ofoyeju, the NDLEA Edo State Command spokesperson, reported that the operations led to the arrest of individuals like Lucky Omen, who was found with a large bag of cannabis sativa weighing 27.3 kilograms, and Joseph Osin, who had 743 grams of cannabis sativa.

The command is currently handling 94 drug-related cases pending in the Federal High Court in Benin City and has initiated rehabilitation programs for affected individuals.
