NDLEA Destroys 73,463kg of Narcotics in Edo State

On Thursday, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) conducted a public destruction exercise in Benin City, Edo State, where they destroyed 73,463.21 kg of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances valued at N2.8 billion. The largest share of the destroyed substances was cannabis sativa, totaling 73,210.23 kg.

Other substances included 246.36 kg of tramadol, 141.81 kg of diazepam, 8.43 kg of codeine cough syrup, 61.77 kg of methamphetamine, 3.74 kg of cocaine, and 0.22 kg of heroin. Brig Gen Mohammed Buba Marwa, the NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, reaffirmed the agency's resolve to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse.

He expressed gratitude to the Edo State government for its support, particularly for allocating 20 plots of land for the construction of a model state command headquarters. Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki described the fight against illicit drugs as a battle against crime and social decay, while Senator Joseph Ikpea pledged legislative support for the NDLEA's operations.
