Cult Violence in Lagos Claims Five Lives Over Weekend

In a violent clash attributed to rival cult groups in Lagos, five individuals were killed over the weekend, with the latest incidents occurring in Ilemba Awori and Shibiri within the Ojo Local Government Area. Eyewitnesses reported gunshots and the presence of armed youths wielding guns and machetes roaming the streets.

The violence reportedly began in Etegbin and subsequently spread to Ilemba and Shibiri, forcing residents to flee their homes. The first casualty was recorded on Friday when a young man was shot dead shortly after playing football.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incidents, stating that 18 suspects have been arrested and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) at Panti for further investigation and prosecution. The violence continued into Saturday evening, with reports of looting and robbery as traders, including a woman named Esther, hurriedly shut their shops and fled upon spotting armed youths advancing along Shibiri Road.
