Skit Makers Transitioning to Nollywood Films

Skit-making has emerged as a significant pathway into Nollywood, with several online comedians transitioning into film. Folagbade Banks, known for his Mama Deola character, gained popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic and has appeared in “The Eve” (2024) and “Okoto,” with his feature-film debut in “A Mama Deola Wedding Story” (2026).

Layi Wasabi built his audience around an exaggerated lawyer character, leading to roles in “Adire” (2023), “Aníkúlápó: Rise of the Spectre” (2024), “Japa!” (2024), “Everybody Loves Jenifa” (2024), and “After 30” (2025). Nasboi, initially recognized for mimicking Davido, developed original characters and has appeared in films such as “Lockdown” (2021), “Passport” (2022), “Saving Onome” (2024), “Dead Serious” (2024), and “Makemation” (2025).

The transition from skit-making to full-length films is becoming a natural progression in Nigeria’s entertainment landscape.
