Bandits Kill 50 in Midnight Attack on Zamfara Village

On Thursday night, a violent attack by bandits in Dutsin Dan Ajiya, Anka Local Government Area, Zamfara State, resulted in the deaths of no fewer than 50 residents. The assault began around 5 PM and continued until 3:30 AM on Friday, with gunmen employing sophisticated weapons and sealing off access roads to prevent villagers from fleeing.

Abdullahi Sani, a 41-year-old resident, reported that three members of his family were killed during the attack. Hamisu Faru, a lawmaker representing Bukkuyum South, confirmed the death toll.

Efforts to reach the Zamfara State Police for comment were unsuccessful. In response to the ongoing violence, the Zamfara State government has donated armored personnel carriers and drones to enhance security operations.

Abdulrazaq Hamzat, Executive Director of the Foundation for Peace Professionals, criticized the current security framework and called for a decentralization of police forces to better address insecurity in remote communities. The situation in Zamfara remains dire, with ongoing bandit attacks despite military operations.
