Bandits Attack Zamfara Village, Killing Nearly 50 People

On Thursday, a bandit attack on Dutsin Dan Ajiya village in Anka Local Government Area, Zamfara State, resulted in the deaths of nearly 50 people and the destruction of almost the entire community. Bashir Musa Anka, the Chairman of Anka LGA, disclosed this information in a conversation with Daily Trust on Monday.

The assailants blocked access roads to prevent villagers from escaping and opened fire indiscriminately, causing panic among the residents. Anka confirmed that 33 victims were given mass burial, while others sustained severe injuries, although exact figures remain unavailable.

Approximately two-thirds of the village, including silos, were razed during the attack, which occurred between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM. The village engaged in a gun duel with the bandits but eventually exhausted their ammunition.

Anka noted that insecurity has persisted in the region, with similar attacks occurring in the past two months. He called on Governor Dauda Lawal to provide urgent support to the affected ward.

Malam Shafi'u Anka, a resident, reported that the attack was triggered by the village's refusal to reconcile with neighboring bandit communities.
