55 Graduates Complete Pan-African AI Governance Programme

A total of 55 fellows graduated from the Pan-African AI governance programme, co-led by Dr. Najeeb G.

Abdulhamid. The fellowship aimed to enhance Africa's capacity for responsible and inclusive AI governance.

Over nearly seven months, the programme developed a curriculum comprising 24 learning activities, including 12 lectures, eight practical workshops, two masterclasses, and three self-paced courses. The curriculum covered AI foundations, ethics, risk, policy strategy, and data-driven governance.

A total of 872 applications were received from 22 African countries, with 70 shortlisted. The fellows, who worked in sectors such as education, health, agriculture, finance, and climate, submitted a capstone project due on February 2, titled "National AI Policy Blueprint: Ubuntu Governance for AI Equity and Innovation Sovereignty." The fellowship was delivered in partnership with Microsoft and OpenSchool, alongside collaborations with various universities and organizations.

Engr. Abba Muhammad Gadanya emphasized the long-term impact of the fellowship on policy decisions across institutions in Africa.
