Six Dead, Twelve Injured in Benue Road Accident

On Friday at approximately 4 PM, a tragic road accident occurred near Otukpo, Benue, resulting in the deaths of six individuals and injuries to twelve others. The incident involved an 18-seater bus belonging to Benue Link Nigeria Limited and a truck allegedly owned by China Harbour Engineering Company.

The bus was en route from Makurdi to Otukpo and was less than three kilometers from its destination when the crash happened. Five passengers died instantly at the scene, while another succumbed to injuries at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital in Otukpo.

The accident was attributed to poor visibility caused by dust from ongoing construction work on the dualized Makurdi-Enugu road, which likely prevented the truck driver from seeing the approaching bus. The Benue Link Nigeria Limited has taken responsibility for the medical treatment of the injured passengers, which includes a seven-month-old infant.

The police were contacted for further comments, but no response was received by the time of the report.
