Fire at Lagos Airport Injures Six, Flights Diverted

A fire broke out at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos on Monday, injuring six people and leading to the diversion of several flights. The incident occurred in Terminal 1, which is currently undergoing rehabilitation, with a federal government allocation of N710 billion for the project.

The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Olubunmi Kuku, activated emergency protocols to prevent a larger catastrophe. Preliminary investigations suggest the fire originated on the ground floor, although the cause is still under investigation.

No ongoing renovation work was affecting the area at the time of the fire. Emergency response teams, including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Federal Fire Service, were deployed to contain the situation.

Flights from British Airways and Lufthansa were rerouted, but operations resumed quickly. The airport police command confirmed that the distress call was received around 15:45 hours, and measures were taken to ensure passenger safety.
