Lagos Airport Reopens After Fire Outbreak, Flights Diverted

Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos reopened after a fire outbreak that occurred on Monday. Mr.

Olubunmi Kuku, the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), confirmed that no fatalities were reported, although six individuals sustained injuries during the incident. The fire led to the diversion of three international flights, including those operated by Emirates, British Airways, and Lufthansa.

Kuku stated that operations would resume within half an hour after the incident, emphasizing the priority of containing the fire and investigating its cause. Emergency procedures were activated, and all personnel were evacuated safely.

The airport's emergency operations center was activated, with the Chief Safety and Security Officer overseeing the response. Kuku noted that the fire reportedly began on the ground floor, and investigations are ongoing.

Temporary relocation of operations to a different terminal was implemented, and firefighting efforts remained in place to address lingering smoke.
