Nigeria Police Games 2026: 6,000 Athletes Compete

The 15th biennial Nigeria Police Games, known as BIPOGA, officially opened on February 14, 2026, in Asaba, Delta State. The event has drawn 6,000 athletes from various commands of the Nigeria Police Force for a week-long competition scheduled to run until February 21.

The games aim to boost morale and strengthen Nigeria's sports development pipeline. A total of 37 sports events will be featured, including the introduction of mixed martial arts, a new discipline designed to modernize competition and expand participation.

The chairman of the organizing committee, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Fom Bam Joseph, stated that the event reflects the depth of competition within the police sports framework, with representation from all 17 zones and the force headquarters. The competition does not adhere to strict universal age classifications, introducing a veteran category to promote safety and fair competition.

The event is seen as a strategic platform to identify and nurture elite athletes within the force, with many officers having previously participated in national competitions.
