HURIWA Demands Transparency on ₦600bn Cash Transfers

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has dismissed the explanation provided by Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), concerning the federal government's assertion that over ₦600 billion was distributed to more than 10 million vulnerable Nigerians through a conditional cash transfer program. HURIWA, represented by National Coordinator Emmanuel Onwubiko, criticized the claim that many alleged beneficiaries lacked access to mobile phones or social media as insufficient.

The organization emphasized the need for documentary evidence rather than political explanations, questioning the absence of records confirming that over 10 million households received the reported funds. HURIWA has called for the federal government to release a detailed and independently verifiable breakdown of the program, including the number of beneficiaries per state and local government, selection criteria, payment amounts, dates, and transfer channels.

The group expressed concern over conflicting reports from various states regarding the identification of beneficiaries.
