HBM Nigeria Launches Training for Women in Construction

HBM Nigeria Plc has initiated its Female Tilers and Block-Laying Training program, targeting 120 women in Lagos and Ogun States. Viola Graham-Douglas, the Director of Communications, Public Affairs and Sustainable Development at HBM Nigeria Plc, stated that the program aims to empower women by providing them with practical construction skills and addressing the gender gap in skilled trades.

The initiative includes training in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, business registration, digital skills, and professional associations, enabling participants to transform their technical skills into sustainable businesses. Graham-Douglas emphasized the importance of skills development in creating lasting opportunities for women, particularly those from underserved communities.

The program not only teaches tiling and block-laying but also equips women with the necessary business acumen and confidence to thrive in an industry where they are often underrepresented.
