69 Dead, 246 Injured in Lagos Road Crashes Q1 2026

In the first quarter of 2026, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) reported that 69 individuals lost their lives and 246 sustained various degrees of injuries due to road accidents across Lagos State. Mr.

Olalekan Bakar Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, disclosed this information during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria. The agency recorded a total of 600 accidents during this period and resolved 900 infractions involving articulated vehicles.

LASTMA's enforcement operations included the use of technology-driven solutions, resulting in the recording of 17,942 traffic offenses. The agency maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards traffic infractions, promptly impounding vehicles and arraigning offenders in mobile courts.

To improve service delivery and response times to traffic incidents, LASTMA has initiated a year-long training calendar for personnel, planning to train 1,000 officers from January to December 2026, with both internal and external training sessions already underway.
