Ogun Sees 80 Road Crash Deaths in Q1 2026, Down from 98

In the first quarter of 2026, Ogun State reported 80 fatalities from road crashes, a notable decrease from 98 fatalities recorded in the first quarter of 2025. The number of injuries also fell from 488 in 2025 to 366 in 2026.

Akinwunmi Fasakin, the Sector Command representative, announced these statistics during the Durbar Award recognition ceremony, attributing the improvements to heightened enforcement of road safety measures in the state. The total number of individuals involved in crashes decreased from 1,582 in 2025 to 1,172 in 2026.

However, Fasakin expressed concern over a rise in traffic offenses, with 9,661 offenders apprehended in the first three months of 2026, compared to 7,647 in 2025. The command emphasized the need for sustained public education to instill a stronger culture of road safety among residents and highlighted key achievements, including the construction of standard quarter guard asphalt on command premises and a call for increased funding for capacity-building initiatives.
