Seven Soldiers, Civilian Killed in Sokoto Ambush

On Saturday evening, seven soldiers and one civilian were killed in an ambush in Sokoto, Nigeria, as troops returned from a military operation against a terrorist hideout in Lakurawa. The ambush occurred when the soldiers had to stop roadside to repair a mechanical fault in their military vehicles.

While they were engaged in repairs, approximately 30 armed militants on motorcycles attacked, resulting in a fierce gun battle. Sources confirmed that seven soldiers and one civilian were killed during the ambush.

The bodies of the soldiers were later discovered in nearby bushes. The Nigerian Army has not disclosed the identities of the fallen soldiers until their next of kin are notified.

DSP Ahmad Rufa, a spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, and Col. Ahm Usman, a special adviser on security matters, declined to comment on the incident.

The military has stated that operations will continue aggressively to neutralize terrorist threats in the area.
