Seven Soldiers Feared Dead in Sokoto Terrorist Ambush

On Saturday evening, at least seven soldiers and a civilian are feared dead due to a terrorist ambush in Lakurawa, Sokoto State. The ambush targeted troops returning from a successful military operation against suspected terrorists in the Fasan Yamma area.

The operation had previously resulted in significant casualties for the armed group. The ambush occurred when troops experienced mechanical issues with their military vehicles and were attacked by approximately 30 heavily armed fighters on motorcycles.

Reports indicate that the soldiers attempted to repair their vehicles when they were ambushed. Different accounts suggest that some soldiers may have abandoned their vehicles to trek back to base when they were attacked.

Local sources reported that six bodies were initially recovered, with a total of seven soldiers missing. The Nigerian Army confirmed the casualties but did not disclose specific figures.

Reinforcements have been deployed to the troubled area to continue operations against the terrorists.
