Ogun State Empowers 83,000 Women with Affinity Groups

Ogun State has registered over 3,000 women affinity groups, benefiting 83,664 women through various empowerment initiatives supported by the World Bank. Governor Dapo Abiodun and Augusta Araba, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, announced this during the inauguration of the project, which spans four local government areas: Ado-Odo Ota, Ifo, Ijebu Ode, and Sagamu.

The program, which commenced in June 2023, aims to reshape the socio-economic landscape of the state by promoting financial inclusion and enterprise development among women. Araba highlighted the importance of grassroots mobilization and advocacy in the program's success.

Bolanle Fadairo, the state project coordinator, stressed the need for commitment and discipline among project champions to ensure effective implementation and monitoring. The initiative also aims to break barriers to women's economic participation, with a focus on reaching vulnerable women through community engagement and training.
