Plateau State Violence Claims Nine Lives in Attacks

On September 20, 2026, nine people were killed in a series of attacks in Plateau State. Five victims were passengers in a Vectra vehicle traveling from Gana-Ropp in Barkin LGA to Mangu LGA when gunmen opened fire around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Ukasha Garba, the Pyem Youth Leader in Gana-Ropp, reported that four passengers and the driver were killed, while one passenger survived. The driver, who frequently transported foodstuffs between Gindiri and Gana-Ropp, was initially alive but died en route to Barikin General Hospital.

Bulus Dabit, the National President of the Mwaghavul Development Association, confirmed the deaths and condemned the attacks, urging security forces to apprehend the perpetrators. In separate incidents, two individuals, including a pastor, were killed near a church in Dorowa Babuje, and another person was killed in Baten Wereng, Riyom LGA.

Rwang Tengwong, spokesman for the Berom Youth Moulders, also condemned the violence and called for enhanced security in the affected areas.
