90 Senators, 9 Governors Compete for APC Senate Tickets

Ninety senators and nine governors are vying for Senate tickets from the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party prepares for the 2027 elections. The APC's screening committee in Abuja is expected to conduct direct primaries, rejecting any consensus arrangements proposed by governors.

This decision follows Section 87(2) of the Electoral Act 2026, which stipulates that if a political party cannot secure written consent from aspirants for consensus candidates, it must revert to direct primaries. Key governors seeking Senate seats include Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe, Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, and Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara.

They are expected to face significant competition from other party members and candidates from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and other parties. For instance, Dapo Abiodun is anticipated to contend against Gbenga Daniel for the Ogun East Senate seat, while Abdulrazaq may face former Senate President Bukola Saraki in Kwara.
