97% of Tinubu's Ambassadors Get Host Country Approval

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that 97% of the ambassadors appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have received the agrément from their respective host countries. In total, 69 ambassadors-designate were appointed following Senate confirmation, with 65 having successfully received the necessary agreements.

The statement, issued by spokesperson Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, noted that the diplomatic process is progressing smoothly. One ambassador-designate to the Republic of Togo declined the appointment, and another to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria passed away in April 2026, with a replacement process underway.

Currently, only two countries have not yet confirmed agrément, but assurances have been received that consent will be provided soon. The Ministry emphasized that most ambassadors have arrived in their host countries and have begun their duties, reaffirming its commitment to enhancing Nigeria's diplomatic representation and advancing foreign policy objectives.
