97% of Tinubu's Ambassadors Approved by Host Countries

The Federal Government of Nigeria announced that 97% of the ambassadors appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have received approval from their respective host countries. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that 65 out of the 69 ambassadors-designate, nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate, have secured the necessary diplomatic agreement (agrément).

Only two approvals remain outstanding. The statement, signed by the Ministry's Spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, clarified that one ambassador-designate to the Republic of Togo declined the appointment, and the ambassador-designate to Algeria passed away in April 2026, with a replacement process underway.

The ministry noted that both remaining countries have assured Nigeria that their consent will be granted soon. Most of the newly appointed ambassadors have already arrived in their host countries and presented their Letters of Credence, officially starting their roles as Nigeria's principal diplomatic representatives.

The ministry reaffirmed the government's commitment to enhancing Nigeria's diplomatic presence abroad.
