Six Nigerian Ambassadors Await Approval for Diplomatic Roles

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that six ambassadorial nominees are still awaiting formal approval (agrément) from their respective host countries to commence their diplomatic duties. This update was provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa.

Last month, President Bola Tinubu appointed 61 out of 69 ambassadors, with the remaining six still pending the required diplomatic clearance. The ambassadors who have already received their agrément include Mahmood Yakubu, Nigeria's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Qatar, who presented his letter of credence to Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on July 2, 2026.

Other ambassadors include Moham Idri Haidara to the Netherlands and Ezenwa C Nwaobiala to Côte d'Ivoire, who presented their letters of credence on June 24 and June 18, 2026, respectively. Florenc Ajimobi, Nigeria's Ambassador to Austria, also presented his letter of credence in Vienna, expressing gratitude for the warm welcome received from the Austrian government.
