Artistic Mentorship Workshop Transforms Nigerian Art Scene

On April 25-26, 2026, a transformative event was held at Gemini Art Gallery in Lagos, focusing on artistic mentorship and bridging generational gaps among Nigerian artists. Led by Raphael Akinnir, the workshop featured veteran practitioners including Abiodun Olaku, Duke Asider, Ogbemi Heymann, Georg Edozi, Bob Nosa Uwagbo, Uch Uzorka, and Steve Ekpenisi.

The workshop addressed specific gaps in the drawing industry, emphasizing the importance of foundational skills. Participants, including teenage prodigies and retired professionals, engaged in exercises that focused on human anatomy, a skill often considered difficult to master.

The event fostered camaraderie and encouraged young artists to view their skills as an alternative currency, highlighting the economic potential within the Nigerian art sector.
