Oyo State Enhances Security Amid Rising Terrorism Threats

On May 26, 2026, Major General Michael Onoja, the Director of Defence Media Operations, announced the deployment of special forces and advanced surveillance assets in Oyo State to combat rising terrorism and kidnapping incidents. This follows the abduction of 39 students and seven teachers from a school in Ori-Ire Local Government Area, where a teacher was tragically beheaded.

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters reported that approximately 35,432 lives have been lost in the first three years of President Bola Tinubu's administration, averaging 35 deaths per day. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to the President, led a federal government delegation to address the grievances of affected families.

The federal government is also collaborating with U.S. intelligence to target terrorist strongholds in Nigeria. Recent incidents include the abduction of Major General Rabe Abubakar's wife in Katsina State and the killing of two individuals in Kogi State, highlighting the ongoing security crisis in Nigeria.
