AAP Sues INEC to Deregister National Democratic Congress

The African Alliance Party (AAP) has initiated legal proceedings against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the registration of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). AAP demands the deregistration of the NDC, asserting that the party was deceitfully registered, which jeopardizes the democratic process in Nigeria.

The AAP's National Executive Committee (NEC) authorized this legal action, warning INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan about the implications of such actions on democracy.

The AAP claims that the NDC was not among the parties that met the necessary requirements for registration, as outlined in a statement signed by Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, the National Public Secretary of AAP. The NEC convened in Abuja on February 17, 2026, to address various challenges, including the registration issues with INEC.

The AAP emphasizes the need for credible and transparent electoral processes, urging that the integrity of the electoral management body must be upheld.
