AAP Challenges INEC Over NDC Registration in Court

The African Alliance Party (AAP) has announced its intention to take legal action against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the controversial registration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). AAP describes the registration as unlawful and a serious threat to Nigeria's democratic process.

Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, the party's national public secretary, emphasized that the NDC has never applied for registration and accused it of deceitfully manipulating the INEC's processes. The AAP asserts that it has met all necessary requirements for registration, including payment of fees and submission of documents, while the NDC was not among the approved political associations.

The party's national executive committee met on February 17, 2026, to resolve this issue and unanimously agreed to challenge the NDC's registration in court, demanding its deregistration. Prof. Joash Amupitan, INEC chairman, is warned against jeopardizing the electoral process and is urged to ensure credible and transparent conduct in line with international standards.
