Abacha Died from Cardiac Arrest, Not Poisoning: Ex-DSS

Dennis Amachree, a former assistant director of the Department of State Services (DSS), revealed in his memoir that General Sani Abacha, Nigeria's former military head of state, died from cardiac arrest during an intimate encounter, not from poisoning as previously speculated. This incident occurred on June 8, 1998, at 4:05 AM inside the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Amachree stated that a woman, identified as a pharmacist from Abuja, was present during the encounter and noticed Abacha became unresponsive. In a panic, she left the villa quietly, and security personnel were later informed of the situation.

Amachree detailed that the woman, who was accompanied by her elder sister, was interrogated by the DSS after the incident. He maintained that her account supports the conclusion that Abacha's death was due to a coital-induced cardiac arrest, aiming to dispel conspiracy theories that have circulated for nearly three decades regarding the circumstances of Abacha's sudden death.
