Abbas Launches LEAD Fellowship for 1,000 Student Leaders

On Tuesday, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, called for investment in young Nigerians' leadership at the launch of the Leadership for Equity, Advocacy and Development (LEAD) Fellowship, organized by the Gender Mobile Initiative (GMI) at the National Assembly in Abuja.

Represented by Hon. Kafilat Ogbara, Abbas emphasized that leadership involves responsibility and accountability, urging young people to focus on societal problem-solving rather than just political ambitions.

The 18-month fellowship aims to prepare 1,000 student leaders from 10 tertiary institutions for ethical leadership and governance. Abbas reaffirmed the House's commitment to enhancing women's political participation through proposed constitutional amendments for special seats for women in legislative bodies.

He also advocated for the inclusion of marginalized groups in governance. Omowumi Ogunrotimi, Executive Lead of GMI, stated that the fellowship addresses the disconnect between student leadership and governance opportunities, providing structured training and mentorship to promote constitutionalism and public service.
