12-Year-Old Munachi Umenyi Regains Freedom After Abduction

Munachi Umenyi, a 12-year-old schoolgirl, was abducted in Ibadan, Oyo State, on February 12, 2026, while being dropped off at school. Eyewitness accounts reported that assailants arrived in a vehicle without a number plate and forcibly seized her, firing gunshots into the air during the incident.

After spending 13 days in captivity, Munachi was released on Wednesday night, with family sources confirming her safe return and expressing gratitude for the prayers and support received throughout the ordeal. Although it was indicated that a ransom was paid for her release, the exact amount remains undisclosed.

Ayanlad Olayinka, a spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, stated that they had not yet received official confirmation of her release and noted that investigations into the abduction are ongoing.
