Abia Landowners Reclaim Farmland for Airport Project

Landowners in the Nsulu area of Isiala Ngwa North LGA, Abia State, have taken back farmland earmarked for the proposed airport project, driven by the need to avert hunger and economic hardship in their communities. The decision affects several autonomous communities, including Okpuala, Umuezenta, Umuelenwa, Umuomainta, and Mbawsi.

The landowners have expressed dissatisfaction with the Abia State Ministry of Land, accusing it of insincerity and a lack of transparency in the land acquisition and compensation process. They allege that their complaints regarding fictitious names on compensation lists have not been addressed.

Echezolam Ukaumunna, the secretary of the Nsulu Landowners Association, stated that the landowners can no longer be comfortable with how the compensation process is being handled, especially as the farming season approaches.
