Abia Assembly Member Mandela Obasi Joins Labour Party

On Wednesday, Mandela Obasi, a three-term member of the Abia State House of Assembly representing Ohafia North, announced his defection from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the Labour Party (LP). This decision followed a closed-door meeting with Governor Alex Otti and Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu at Otti's residence in Isialangwa South LGA.

Obasi explained that his choice to join the LP was influenced by the visible work being done by Governor Otti across Abia State and the crises that have driven many away from the PDP. He expressed dissatisfaction with the leadership of the PDP, stating that he no longer felt represented by the party.

Obasi's announcement came shortly after Senator Austin Akobundu, representing Abia Central District, also resigned from the PDP, citing similar issues within the party. Obasi indicated that he would later set a date for a larger group to support the LP.
