TCN Launches Campaign Against Power Infrastructure Vandalism

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has initiated a community awareness campaign in Alaoji, Aba, Abia State, to address the issues of vandalism and encroachment on transmission Right of Way (RoW). This campaign, organized by TCN’s Port Harcourt Region, involved traditional rulers, youth leaders, community members, and security agencies to raise awareness about the dangers of vandalizing electricity infrastructure and constructing buildings within transmission corridors.

Engr. Juliet Ndi Ukomadu, the Assistant General Manager of TCN’s Aba Sub-Region, expressed concern over the rising incidents of vandalism, particularly affecting earthing wires, cables, and tower components, which could lead to significant disruptions in electricity supply. Ukomadu urged community members to report suspicious activities.

Additionally, Etang Edike, Head of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure at the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), warned that individuals caught vandalizing power infrastructure would face severe legal repercussions. The NSCDC has deployed a patrol vehicle and armed personnel to respond to vandalism reports.
