Abia State Wins Opening Match at South East Boxing Championship

The South East Amateur Boxing Championship commenced in Umuahia, Abia State, where Abia defeated Ebonyi State. The match featured Chidieber Chukwuemeka from Abia State triumphing over Chigbo Aguiyi from Ebonyi State.

Another match saw Israel Ogbodo from Enugu State defeating Ayu Jonah from Imo State. The championship aims to discover and develop raw boxing talent in the South East, with support from the Abia State government.

Benard Nzeama, a board member of the National Sports Commission, emphasized the importance of the event in fostering grassroots sports and creating employment opportunities while discouraging youth deviant activities. Nwaobilor Ananaba, the Abia State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, noted that Governor Alex Otti is committed to developing all sectors of sports in the state.

The championship will continue with both male and female categories.
