Abia Governor Otti Launches Violence Reduction Initiative

On August 13, 2025, Abia State Governor Alex Otti, represented by his Chief Press Secretary Ukoha Njoku, launched the National Community Violence Reduction Programme (NCVRP) in Abia State. Otti emphasized that the state would not tolerate criminal elements and highlighted the necessity of security for the success of humanitarian initiatives, such as those by the Rotary Club.

The program aims to tackle the root causes of violence, strengthen communities, and promote resilience, particularly among vulnerable groups including women, youth, children, persons with disabilities, and the elderly. Sunni Megwara, the Abia State Coordinator for the Rotary Action Group Peace, underscored the importance of peace for development and the need for innovative, people-centered approaches to address Nigeria's complex security challenges.

The NCVRP is designed to deliver immediate and long-term solutions across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones, leveraging collaboration among various stakeholders to enhance community resilience and social cohesion.
