Abia Governor's Wife Empowers FGM Survivors, Calls for Stronger Action

Mrs. Priscilla Otti, the wife of the Governor of Abia State, has supported FGM survivors by providing cash assistance and called for the federal government to develop stronger mechanisms to permanently ban the practice nationwide.

She emphasized the severe physical and psychological consequences of FGM, highlighting its violation of girls' and women's fundamental rights. Abia State has taken a firm legal stance against FGM, with laws prohibiting violence against persons.

Stakeholders, including traditional rulers and faith-based organizations, are intensifying awareness campaigns and advocacy efforts to eliminate FGM by 2030. Various individuals such as Dr.

Maureen Aghukwa, Mr. Chineny Nwaka, and others are actively involved in protecting girls' rights and advocating against FGM in Abia State.
