Abia State Governor Alex Otti formally transferred ownership of a newly constructed Nigerian Air Force Administrative Complex located in Umuahia to the Federal Government on Friday. The handover ceremony included General Christopher Musa, Nigeria's Defence Minister, and Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, Chief of the Air Staff, in their official capacities.
At the event, Otti stated that protecting residents' lives and property represents a basic entitlement, framing the facility transfer as evidence of effective partnership between national and state-level authorities working toward common security objectives. The Defence Minister responded by recognizing the Abia administration's commitment to bolstering defence infrastructure, characterising the project as a practical example of how state governments can collaborate with the Armed Forces on critical security matters.
General Musa used the occasion to highlight that sustainable national security depends on coordinated action spanning military institutions, federal agencies, and state administrations. He separately announced plans to launch a South-east regional basketball championship aimed at identifying and developing athletic talent at the grassroots level across the southeastern states.
The Air Force Administrative Complex in Umuahia represents state investment in military infrastructure, part of broader efforts to strengthen defence capacity in the South-east region. The facility's handover concludes the construction phase, with federal forces now responsible for its operation and maintenance.
