Abia State Launches Sports Boards for Youth Empowerment

On Wednesday, Abia State Governor Alex Otti inaugurated boards for various sports federations under the Abia State Sports Council, focusing on youth empowerment and employment development. During the inauguration in Umuahia, Otti, represented by Deputy Ikechukwu Emetu, highlighted the revitalization of sports as a strategic step towards youth development and economic growth.

He emphasized the importance of sports as a platform for engaging young people, instilling unity, discipline, teamwork, and resilience. Otti also warned that the Abia State Government cannot continue to fund sports activities alone and cautioned sports associations against unproductive practices.

The Director of Sports in Abia State, Obioma Georg, noted that the government's investment in the sports sector is a result of appointing coaches to state and national sports associations, indicating a commitment to enhancing the sports landscape in Abia.
