Abia State Launches Learner ID and EMIS for Education

The Abia State Government has introduced a learner identification number system, known as the Abia State Learner Identification Number (ABSLIN), alongside an Education Management Information System (EMIS). This initiative, announced by Goodluck Ubochi, the Commissioner for Basic Secondary Education, aims to strengthen data management and track learners across schools.

The system will assign each learner a unique identification number to monitor their academic progress and ensure continuity in learning records. Ubochi disclosed that 36,415 applications were received for the second batch of a teacher recruitment exercise, with 24,023 candidates shortlisted for a computer-based test.

The state aims to recruit 4,000 teachers to support mass literacy and adult non-formal education programs for the 2025/2026 academic session. Additionally, Abia State has recently emerged as the overall best in the national basic education school sports games, winning eight gold medals and ranking top in NECO examinations for three consecutive years.

This reflects a broader shift toward data-driven governance in Nigeria's education sector.
