Abia State Launches New Educational Management System

The Abia State Government has introduced a new educational management information system to improve the quality and efficiency of data-driven management in basic secondary schools across the state. Okei Kanu, the Commissioner for Education, disclosed this during a press briefing following the State Executive Council meeting in Umuahia.

The system will create a central database to monitor and measure educational outcomes. Additionally, the state is intensifying its campaign for mass literacy and adult non-formal education programs, targeting school dropouts and adults who have not completed formal education.

Kanu also noted that the second batch of teacher recruitment is progressing, with 36,415 applications received and 24,023 shortlisted for the computer-based test, with the date to be announced. The state government aims to recruit 4,000 teachers in this batch.

Furthermore, the mass literacy program is set to resume in the 2025/2026 academic session. The educational reforms have yielded positive results, with Abia State emerging as one of the best-performing states in the NECO examination over the past three years.
