Abia State Enhances Welfare for NYSC Corps Members

On Friday, during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2026 Batch B Stream II corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Umunna, Bende Local Government Area, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, represented by Jane Igwe, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development, pledged enhanced welfare for corps members. The governor emphasized the administration's commitment to the welfare and security of the corps members, highlighting significant improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and security.

He announced ongoing upgrades at the orientation camp, including road reconstruction, renovation of officials’ quarters, and improved water supply. Otti encouraged corps members to engage in the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme, aimed at preparing them for the global economy.

He also mentioned the removal of administrative barriers to the payment of state allowances and the establishment of NYSC Local Government Committees to support community development. The NYSC Abia State Coordinator, Yunusa Tanimu, reported that 1,526 corps members had been registered.
