Abia Police Deny False Boko Haram Arrest Claims

The Abia State Police Command issued a statement on Tuesday, clarifying that a viral social media claim alleging the recent arrest of 488 Boko Haram members in the state is false. The police described the report as a deliberate attempt to undermine public peace and security, warning that spreading such misinformation could trigger panic among the public.

The police emphasized that a video circulating alongside the claim was an old broadcast from 11 years ago and does not reflect the current security situation in Abia State. DSP Maureen Chinaka, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police Danladi Isa, cautioned that individuals found guilty of spreading false information could face arrest and prosecution under relevant laws, including the Criminal Code Act and the Cybercrime Act.

The police assured residents of their commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urged them to report any suspicious activities while remaining calm and vigilant.
