Abia Police Deny Arrest of 488 Boko Haram Terrorists

The Abia State Police Command issued a statement on Wednesday, denying reports that 488 Boko Haram terrorists had been arrested in the state. The command described the viral claim as false and misleading, stating that it was causing unnecessary panic and disturbing public peace.

Maureen Chinaka, the spokesperson for the police, explained that the video circulating online was not recent but rather an old broadcast from 11 years ago, with no connection to the current security situation in Abia. She emphasized that there have been no arrests of Boko Haram suspects in the state and reassured the public that security agencies are fully alert and in control.

The police urged residents to remain calm and continue their daily activities without fear. They also warned against spreading false information, particularly on social media, and stated that individuals disseminating such misinformation could face legal consequences under the Criminal Code Act and Cybercrime laws.
