Abia State Achieves Second Place in 2026 Performance Index

Abia State has achieved the distinction of being Nigeria's second-highest-performing state according to the revised 2026 State Performance Index Report by Phillips Consulting, with a composite score of 0.55, following Jigawa State. The state's ranking improved dramatically from 36th in 2024 to 10th in 2025, and now to 2nd in 2026, marking a net gain of 34 places, the largest among the 33 states assessed.

The report, initially launched on July 23, 2026, underwent a comprehensive review, leading to a new methodology that distinguishes current performance from historical progress. Abia excelled particularly in citizen satisfaction, scoring +1.78 and rated 'Good' based on 770 responses.

Key areas of high ratings included government support for business and road infrastructure. The report also highlighted Abia's fiscal indicators, showing a 27% revenue self-reliance and a debt-to-revenue ratio of 36%.

The state's transparency score was recorded at 0.38, reflecting improvements in its fiscal reporting.
