Abia Lawmaker Defects to Labour Party Alongside Key Stakeholders in Ukwa East

Abia State House of Assembly member representing Ukwa East State Constituency, Hon. Obianyi, has defected from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the Labour Party.

The decision was attributed to Governor Alex Otti's inclusive governance approach. During a visit to Otti's government house, key political stakeholders from Ukwa East Local Government Area, including Hon.

Paul Taribo, Chief Bright Benson, and Ladi Chinedu Brown, joined the defection. Obianyi had earlier informed the governor in September 2023 about his plan to switch parties, describing the move as fulfilling his earlier intent.

Governor Otti commended Obianyi and others for joining the Labour Party, promising a formal reception for them soon. The visit also saw discussions on various development projects, including the delayed flag-off of a state-of-the-art general hospital in Ukwa East.

The delegation expressed appreciation for gifts presented by the governor and discussed efforts to commercialize local products. The defection is expected to impact the political landscape in the region significantly.
